Rutherford County Adult Detention Center is a 956-bed correctional facility.
The facility houses pretrial male and female inmates as well as sentenced prisoners in a double cell environment. The maximum sentence is eight years. The facility provides basic needs in a safe and healthy environment for prisoners. The detention facility operates laundry facilities and provides medical services, a library, legal materials and outdoor recreation area for inmates.
Inmates can enroll in educational, rehabilitation and faith-based programs offered to improve themselves and give skills to keep them from repeating crimes upon release.
With a goal to change behavior and reduce recidivism rates, programs assist inmates in the transition to a healthy, productive life outside the facility. These programs focus on successful, lawful living by changing old, destructive and illegal behaviors. These programs focus on changing behaviors through education, faith and treatment.
Some of the programs offered are the HiSet/GED preparation course, Alcoholics Anonymous, life skills, parenting, Reformers Unanimous, Bible studies and church services. More programs will be added when a classroom is completed this year.
Non-violent inmates with lesser charges are chosen to be trusties who work under supervision by cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash, washing cars, mowing and maintaining the building and grounds. They save the county money on upkeep of the building and grounds. State law allows trusties to work off one day of their sentence for every day of labor.
Families who want to visit must undergo a background check and can’t have a felony record. Once approved, families may schedule visitation after the first week. In order to maintain a safe visitation experience, strict rules apply to the visitor and the inmate being visited.
Visitation is scheduled by appointment only. Visitors must go online to VendEngine Inmate Video Visitation in order to schedule visits. If they do not have access to the Internet, they may schedule appointments by coming inside the visitation lobby.
Visitation times are Monday - Sunday at 8:15 a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. The 8:15 a.m. visit is 30 minutes. All other visits are 45 minutes. Inmates are allowed two visits per week. Visitation will be monitored. Any inappropriate conduct such as nudity or slamming phones will cause the visit to the terminated. If you have any questions, please call 615-904-3132.
Family members or friends may deposit money into inmate accounts using cash, debit cards or credit cards at the kiosk in the Visitation Lobby Tuesday – Sunday 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. or the kiosk in the Warrants Lobby from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays.
Inmates may order various items such as food, clothing and hygiene items from a vendor commissary service. All orders are deducted from their account paid for by families and friends. You may also use jailfunds.com to deposit funds. No personal checks or money orders will be accepted.
When inmates are released, if there is money remaining on their commissary account, they will have one year to pick up the money. Remaining balances will be converted to a check or debit card and placed in the Visitation Lobby. Monies not picked up after one year will be turned over to the State’s unclaimed funds account. If they have a pending order, they will have five business days to pick up any items owed which can be retrieved in the Visitation lobby. After five business days, the items will be donated. If there are any issues with commissary, please call 1-855-589-7687.
